Ask The Director: Who Are You?

An AGD member in Arizona writes:  “Who are you?  Credentials?”

DEAN ROTBART Responds:

(TEAM 1500 Director, Dean Rotbart, conducts a strategy session)

I am the full-time director of TEAM 1500, which was formed in early January 2007 as a non-profit coalition of healthcare professionals.  My own background is as an investigative journalist (nominated by the Wall Street Journal for a Pulitzer Prize)and a long-time advocate for equal access to medicine.   I have previously consulted numerous for-profit and non-profit organizations on their efforts to sway public and industry opinions.  I am a tier-one public relations expert and in that capacity have trained more than 5,000 senior-level PR people.

I first began writing and consulting in the dental industry about four years ago.  In the process I became familiar with oral sedation dentistry and the great benefits it affords anxious and fearful patients.  In the interim, I have done some writing and consulting for the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation as well as some of its individual members.

For my "clinical" knowledge, like any good reporter, I rely upon experts in the field to keep me educated and accurate.  Since January 2, when I started, I've been in contact with hundreds of dentists -- many, many of them members of the AGD, who are beside themselves over the impact that the
ADA proposals would have on their patients and their practices.

I am hoping that the AGD will take a strong, pro-active position against the
ADA proposals on behalf of its members and their patients.
